The New Moon at 8 degrees Libra takes place on Friday, September 30th, 2016 at 7:11 PM Central Standard Time. For those of you in later time zones, this of course means it will take place in the wee hours of Saturday, October 1st. Since it is the second New Moon of September, you’ll see it referred to as a “Black Moon”.

In astrology, the Dark Moon (or Black Moon) is representative of the darker side of our nature. It is the hidden depths that we know exist yet we prefer not to acknowledge. It is subtle on the surface, yet profound beneath. It is the foundations of our personality and the shocking truth that we often deny and project onto others instead. The refusal to see what is really within ourselves. The subtle refusal to see what part we may have played in some unpleasant drama of our lives, how we ourselves have manifested our fears. It is the kind of thing that we intrinsically know we have to deal with, confront the darker side in order to progress unhindered, yet most often we try to ignore. It is the deeper truth that we are forever in search of within ourselves. Probably the best use we can make of the dark moon is to explore our hidden depths, realize that we all have that darker side and go within to resolve that which ultimately hinders us.

In order to take full advantage of this dark moon period (to harness it, rather than let it hinder us), we must start to search inwards. One way to start doing this is by taking the advice of Caroline Myss.

Author of five New York Times Best Sellers: Anatomy of the Spirit, Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can, Sacred Contracts, Invisible Acts of Power, Entering The Castle, and Defy Gravity and Her most recent book, Archetypes: Who Are You?. She describes herself as a medical intuitive and a mystic.

While you don’t have to believe fully in the power of spirits and astrology, you should believe in self help and the revival of the spirit. So in anticipation of October 1st Dark Moon, take a moment and heed the advice of Caroline Myss.

The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind.

Just let go. Let go of how you thought your life should be, and embrace the life that is trying to work its way into your consciousness.

Whatever is in me is stronger than what is out there to defeat me.

Live one day at a time. Keep your attention in present time. Have no expectations. Make no judgements. And give up the need to know why things happen as they do. Give it up!

We often hesitate to follow our intuition out of fear. Most usually, we are afraid of the changes in our own life that our actions will bring. Intuitive guidance, however, is all about change. It is energetic data ripe with the potential to influence the rest of the world. To fear change but to crave intuitive clarity is like fearing the cold, dark night while pouring water on the fire that lights your cave. An insight the size of a mustard seed is powerful enough to bring down a mountain-sized illusion that may be holding our lives together. Truth strikes without mercy. We fear our intuitions because we fear the transformational power within our revelations.

Always go with the choice that scares you the most, because that’s the one that is going to require the most from you

Healing comes from gathering wisdom from past actions and letting go of the pain the education cost you.

When you do not seek or need approval, you are at your most powerful.

Release the need to know why things happen the way they do.

Why is hard always an excuse to stop?

Never blame another person for your personal choices – you are still the one who must live out the consequences of your choices.

Grant me the grace to dissolve my negative thoughts about myself today.

Developing self-esteem requires an act of revolution, or several mini-revolutions, in which we begin to separate from group thought and establish our own sense of authority.

Never go to bed with a grudge inside you or beside you.

Bless your day in gratefulness and with love.
