Friday, January 27th brings us a New Moon in Aquarius, followed by the Chinese New Year on Saturday, which always falls on the first new moon in Aquarius – the first New Moon of 2017.

There is a sense of feeling as if there is much to overcome and a lot is posing obstacles in our way. It can feel stressful and unfair. Getting stuck in the same patterns, and tackling a problem the same way over and over is proving to not be getting us very far. We must get creative, and try to be innovative and resourceful in our lives. The feelings of nagging and irritation many of us are feeling is not inherently easy to shake, and will require us to put forth a bit more effort and determination to push us forward and out of the dull rut. This call for creativity and persistence is supported by Aquarian energies. It is a good time to push ourselves, and not give in to any fear that is keeping us from taking risks and holding us back from making progress.

Aquarius Themes: creation, community, imaginative, intuitive, independent, erratic, eccentric, unfamiliar.

As with all, there are polarities to the energies being offered to us. Be sure you are harnessing the positive aspects – in this case inventiveness, persistence, flexibility, and bravery – rather than their ‘alter egos’ of stubbornness, irritation and aggression. The challenges we face are not to be viewed as obstacles telling us ‘no’, but opportunities to remind ourselves of the power we possess to make our dreams come true. Turn any frustrations into opportunities for action. These obstacles are temporary, and it is our work to not let them stand in the way of the abundance we envision for our lives.

True knowledge says: all is well, it always has been, and always will.

New Moons are a time of new beginnings. Even if they are small, this energy shift allows us to have a fresh start by assessing and refining our approach to things.

As is the cyclical nature of life, we are constantly rebirthing ourselves. Focus your energy on setting intentions that are positive and purposeful. When creating your intentions, focus on how you want to feel this month – the work we do in the first quarter of the moon sets the course for the rest of our month. Set aside time to focus on what do you want to create, develop, cultivate, manifest, and radiate this month. If you are feeling defeated or victimized, manifest strength and support.

If you inherently long for something, become it first. If you want gardens, become the gardener. If you want love, embody love. If you want mental stimulation, change the conversation. If you want peace, exude calmness. If you want to fill your world with artists, begin to paint. If you want to be valued, respect your own time. If you want to live ecstatically, find the ecstasy within yourself. This is how to draw it in, day by day, inch by inch.

New Moons are also, and absolutely, about celebrating and enjoying what has come of your efforts. Aquarius is a social sign, often referenced as the House of Friendships, so this is a good time to spend time with those close to us. When we work together and surround ourselves with likeminded people we create an energy of support and momentum – these creative collaborations along with the personal detachments supported by Aquarius supports us in the endeavors we are pouring ourselves into at this time.

It is our chance to shake off the last of 2016’s baggage (energy, karma, cobwebs) and make space for a fresh start. Don’t forget that 2016 was a year of endings, and 2017 a year of new beginnings. We are now a few weeks into the New Year, so checking in to ensure we are maintaining the goals we set for ourselves is vital to putting our lives into perspective and meeting ourselves where we are.

Think bigger and push yourself to take risks. There is no high intensity or worrisome aspects to this New Moon necessarily, so grant yourself the time to open your perspective, get settled and reflect with an open mind and heart. Aquarius is a beautiful place to reflect and reset, as it allows us to see all of our emotions and process them creatively and with less emotional attachment. When we feel less attached on a personal level to the circumstances at play we don’t feel the heavy drag of victimhood that can prevent us from being the warriors we all carry within us.
Humanitarian issues are often a focus around Aquarius, so turn any emotions of anger, pain and injustice into service and action. The Women’s March that took place all over the country this past weekend is a powerful representation of how this energy can be harnessed on a larger, more tangible platform. By acting on our emotions in a positive way and expressing them outwardly we loosen the tension and agitation that we are carrying in ourselves and putting that energy into the world in a constructive place where it can make an impact.

Women are a creative force. We are creative beings: our bodies are designed to give birth to creations, ideas, and beliefs — to bring things into fruition.

Both our personal and societal truths are being illuminated, and while this can be hard (emotional, angry, frustrating) it is necessary to come to light before any progress can be made. We are all responsible for our own energies and what we are putting out into the world. If light, love, compassion, understanding, is what we seek then we must begin with ourselves and live out that truth in our personal lives. Energy is infectious and we must never underestimate the influence of the energies we offer to the rest of the world, both good and bad.

What I am actually saying is that we need to be willing to let our intuition guide us, and then be willing to follow that guidance directly and fearlessly.

Aquarius is an air sign, and things can change quickly and unexpectedly. Go with the flow and be flexible. This is a time that calls us to adapt to what is out of our control when unexpected circumstances arise. Challenge what you thought you knew and question things. Artistic and creative endeavors will be supported by this New Moon. Accept the challenge and surprise yourself – it will all pay off.
