As we near Monday’s Super Moon, use the days leading up to prepare yourself for the positive surge of energy and motivation that comes with it by spending time reflecting on the elements at play in your life. What has supported you? What has challenged you? If you are holding on to any anger or resentment, whether it be towards a situation, someone else, or yourself, use these days to accept, forgive and let it go. This super moon tells us all is possible, so don’t be the one thing standing in the way of you and your dreams.
Rid yourself of any toxic habits or thoughts, and create positive intentions around your ideals. If it is no longer serving you, wish it well and send it off. If you are feeling unsettled, spend some time exploring the root of your discomfort. Once we know the source of our suffering, we can start to make peace with it. A new moon symbolizes new beginnings. It is the perfect time for setting your goals and making a plan of action.
Want to honor the new moon and the gift of the opportunity to reset the universe is giving us? Try a new moon ritual. Rituals are helpful in setting clear intentions and marking a point in time where we are shedding the past and moving into the endless possibilities of the future.
- Rituals for Birthing Your Wishes And Desires
Create An Alter – Pick a space in your home, preferably one that you do not frequently use or that already serves a dedicated purpose. Prepare this as your sacred space.
Set you alter with objects that hold meaning to you.
Some suggestions are: photographs of loved ones or images that inspire you, plants and flowers, heirlooms, symbolic objects, sentimental gifts, books, essential oils, sculptures, paintings, crystals, colorful scarves, feathers, seashells, and anything that feels right for you.
Begin by lighting candles, or burning incense or sage to bless the space.
Once your space is set, center yourself with some deep breaths. Thank the universe for the experiences and insight if has presented you with, both good and bad. Offering up this gratitude opens our hearts to create space for the things we want.
Create a mantra or set a clear intention – Write it at the top of your journal page. Your personal intentions are the things you wish to create, cultivate and grow in your life. This can be a quality you want to gain such as patience, or something more tangible like a promotion or relationship. What is important is that you are committing yourself to the your vision. Keep it simple, short, and sweet. You can use your mantra to remind yourself of the groundedness you feel now, when being grateful and following through with our intentions is challenging. Use your mantra as a moment to take a few deep breathes and clear you mind of any ruminating thoughts.
Below your mantra begin to write down your desires and goals you would like to bring into your life. Do not limit yourself. You can continue to fill the pages of your journal with things that inspire you and symbolize the goal you are setting to attain. Whether it be quotes, doodles or images ripped from magazines, reinforcing your inner desires with imagery will give it strength to your manifestations.
If there is anything you wish to get rid of, whether they be habits, thoughts, or things that cause us pain and anxiety, a good exercise is to write it down, and burn it in the flame.
Nothing you want in this life is unattainable. You must always carry the knowledge that you are capable and you are worthy of all your hopes and dreams.
2. Rituals To Gain Insight & Acceptance (Self Healing)
Reflections – Reflect on your life over the past few months. What have been turning points? Set backs? If you keep a journal, it can be helpful to go back and reflect on what you have written over this time. Consider ways you have grown, and areas you want to be better in moving forward. Write about it. Meditate on it. We are all works in progress, and can often be our biggest critic. Forgive yourself.
“Well, we all make mistakes, dear, so just put it behind you. We should regret our mistakes and learn from them, but never carry them forward into the future with us.”
— L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Avalon
Buy a notebook specifically for this purpose. Buy one that speaks to you – whether through it’s front page, the type of paper or the size. Spend your time finding the perfect journal and don’t worry about splurging for the expensive one. You want it to be a sacred piece of you.
3. Ritual To Gain Clarity
Clean It Out – Sometimes changing our thoughts starts with changing our physical space. Clutter and disorganization can affect us deeper than on the surface. This can be a space in your home, your desktop, or simply the thought catalog in your head. Examine it -What is working? Re-arrange it -What is not working? Release what you are holding onto that is not supporting you. Create a way that better serves you and the purpose at be. Let this physical transformation symbolize the transformation going on within. When we remove things from our lives, we create space for new things to enter. Identify any ‘energy leaks’ in your life. If you find there are aspects of your life that are draining your energy and preventing you from your happiness and fulfillment, we must create boundaries to support our highest self. Don’t hold on to things that are only holding you back.
“All of us carry around countless bags of dusty old knickknacks dated from childhood: collected resentments, long lists of wounds of greater or lesser significance, glorified memories, absolute certainties that later turn out to be wrong. Humans are emotional pack rats. These bags define us.”
—Marya Hornbacher, Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia
4. Ritual To Gain Peace
Connect – It is often easy to forget the important role nature plays in our wellbeing. Nature renews itself constantly, each and every season. Like nature, we need to let go of parts of ourself that are hindering our growth. By spending time walking and experience nature, rather than mindlessly rushing from place to place, we can help to soften the incessant chatter that clouds our minds. There is a lot of noise coming from all angles, and it is often hard to unplug and remember the beauty and magic that surrounds us. Being humbled by nature can provide clarity and insight. Sometimes the best thing we can do is surrender and accept.
“Everything in nature invites us constantly to be what we are.”
— Gretel Ehrlich
Remember, there is no right or wrong way to honor the new moon. The new moon ritual is about honoring yourself and your journey. Be grateful for what has supported you, and for what has challenged you. Both are necessary in the ever-evolving journey of self-discovery.
You’ve got this, and the universe has your back.
