We begin February coming from the Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, which follows the first New Moon of each year, on January 27th. The Chinese calendar follows the Chinese zodiac, where one of the 12 signs represents each year as well as one of the five elements – Gold (metal), Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. It is believed that both the zodiac sign and the element at play have an affect on our personality and destiny. 2017 is the year of the Fire Rooster.
Fire Rooster Themes: Awakening, rise and action, we must follow through with action and bravery, deliberateness, diligence. Fire Rooster conjours a ‘do-er’ energy, and we no longer can sit on the side lines and feel like it is enough. We have seen this play out in our world – there is a call to action and an energy that says ‘if not us, then who’?.
You cannot use someone else’s fire; you can only use your own. And in order to do that, you must first be willing to believe you have it.
— Audre Lorde
It is a good time for us to come together. There is an energy of needing to connect and support each other, because we cannot do it all alone. The energy only appears to be mounting, and we must make sure we are practicing enough self-care and have positive outlets for the extra. The trick of it all is to focus on love. Love for ourselves, others, and all that is good and beautiful. When things are feeling dark we will only truly feel good when we are pouring love into something. We must be reminded of our own light, and we must start with ourselves. Our hearts may be feeling tender, but we must be grateful for any heightened sense of compassion and understanding.
Don’t let the day deem you dead, you have the moon yet to come.
— Extract by Amy Kennedy
The moon will be waxing the first half of the month, so focus on your intention, and do what you can to plant seeds and conceptualize your ideas to set into motion. There will be a Full Moon on February 11th coinciding with a lunar eclipse on February 10th.
There are typically four eclipses a year. One of the four eclipses of 2017 will fall on February 10th – A lunar eclipse in Leo. Lunar eclipses are more emotional than solar eclipses, for they bring with them endings. We can expect an emotional time, latent with memories and sentiments. When things in our lives come to and end we are reminded of the passage of time, which is leaves a feeling hard to describe in a way that makes any sense, as it is often a feeling so personal to each of us.
Eclipses are wild cards in our horoscopes and call for us to focus our attention on the areas of our lives that change. Eclipses do not just call for change, they demand it, and it happens fast. We will move into a higher stream of consciousness and a different level of maturity.
Everything that happens is in an effort to move us forward. Eclipses are dramatic in their delivery, and we can expect to be surprised. Eclipses are known to bring big events, completions and beginnings, developments and catalyst to our lives. Pay attention and take action.
It’s never too late to realize who I am.
— Dorothy Iannone
The information presenting itself to us during this time could be big or small, but we can’t miss what is being illuminated. It might surprise us, but do not have any fear – the truth sets us free. As Susan Miller beautifully states, “Eclipses are always your friends, for they are here to protect you. Always be grateful for truth.”
Experiencing the dramatic and unpredictable effects of eclipses, when there is a lot happening that is out of our control, seems fitting at this time. Truths will rise to the surface, and impact our choices of how we move forward.
It is all about forward movement when the eclipse arrives, so use the beginning of February to set your intentions, and plant the seeds you wish to harvest. The eclipse will shake things up, so it is best to have a formulated idea of what you are focusing your energies on.
“Touched bottom again. Decided to liberate myself. We are never trapped unless we choose to be.”
— Anaïs Nin
It is all about our development, and moving on and ahead by surrendering to what is changing and over and acknowledge what is coming. February is the shortest month of the year, so look up, open your heart and make the most of it. Feel new truths and adjust. Seek the beauty that is around us as a dose of strength and peace. Strength through compassion, always.
